Winter Gathering
The weather is getting cooler and it’s time to get ready for our Winter Gathering. This year we will be collecting items for the Presbyterian Home for Children in Black Mtn. A list of items to be collected will be posted on the PW Bulletin Board. It is also the time of the year for our annual gift or pledge. This year we will have a Tea on Friday December 5th in the Fellowship Hall. The cost will be $5.00 and prepaid reservations will be taken on Nov. 16th, 23rd and 30th between services.
We will meet at 12:30 pm for registration and then move to the Sanctuary at 1:00 pm for our musical entertainment provided by the Kenmure Chorale. This will be followed by our business meeting. We will then adjourn to the Fellowship Hall for our Tea. So please mark your calendar and hope to see you there.
Lao Song Handicrafts for Christmas
Presbyterian Women will once again be selling the handicrafts made by the Lao Song people of Thailand. Although they live in the central plains of Thailand, the Lao Song are considered "Hill-tribe" people because they came from the hills of Laos over 160 years ago, brought by a conquering Thai King as prisoners of war. In the past they have lived by rice farming and fishing, but their old methods do not produce enough to meet the requirements of this modern age. Survival requires supplemental income. Their fine craftwork was in danger of disappearing in the face of modernization. Recently it has been revived in a small effort to help this tribe struggle out of the age of the water buffalo into the age of the tractor. Each lovely item purchased helps these people overcome some of the obstacles towards a better and fuller life. Each time an item is sold, a new sense of dignity and worth is felt by a people who did not realize they possessed any talent which people outside their immediate village would appreciate.
Please check out the items for sale in the narthex during the Christmas season. Along with unique tree ornaments, are cutwork table linens and lovely toys. Most items are priced under ten dollars - many of them well under that price. You will not find these items in the big box stores, and you will be helping to preserve the dignity of these hardworking people.
What is a Circle?
Typically, Presbyterian Women in the Congregation are organized into small groups called Circles.
A circle is:
Where faith is nurtured and growth takes place through worship, study, friendship and outreach
Where women are challenged to stretch beyond their limits
Where women move beyond the safe places of life and reach out to others
Where Christian leadership is born, nurtured and sent forth to ministry
If you are not presently in a Circle we would love to have you join us. There will be a Circle sign-up sheet on the bulletin board for new members and anyone who would like to move to a new circle.
