
Dr. Barbara Nagy, Malawi
Dr. Nagy was appointed in January 2004 to serve in Malawi. She is a specialist in internal medicine and pediatrics and is serving as a physician at Nkhoma Hospital, an institution of the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian, Nkhoma Synod. From 1989 to 1993 she served as a physicion in Africa as a mission co-worker in the Democratic Republic of Congo (then known as Zaire.) Barabara has said,
"Soon after becoming a Christian, I felt God calling me to mission. It's both an expression of my faith in Christ's salvation and an expression of God's love for all. I feel privileged to be a Presbyterian because of the church's rich heritage of mission and also because of the many missionaires I have known who have nurtured and inspired me in faith."
Dr. Nagy holds an M.D. from Emory University and a bachelor's of science from Oral Roberts University. She also has a degree in tropical medicine from the Prince Leopold School of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, Belgium.
Prior to her appointment to Malawi, Barbara worked in family practice in Glen Alpin, North Carolina (1995-2003) and at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Banner Elk. She served in Tuba City, Arizona and Rosebud, South Dakota from 1986-89 as a physician with the Indian Health Service.
Dr. Nagy is a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Morganton, NC. She has two daughters, Melia and Anna who accompanied her to Malawi.
