Director’s Statement
I’m fortunate enough to live in the heart of Western North Carolina which is surrounded by two of the most magnificent national forests in the country - the Pisgah and Nantahala. The idea for this film began with the realization of how truly special these national forests are and wanting to explore what makes them so unique and thus, so important to conserve. This coincidentally just so happened to be when the US Forest Service was finishing their decade-long effort to figure out how to manage the million plus acres that make up these national forests. For me, it was the perfect opportunity to reflect on our relationship to nature and to use the plan as a meditation on our role as humans in the natural world. The film is a reflection of my love for this region of the world and a vision for how we can view our place within it.
