A New Confession of Faith Addressing Modern Challenges

On the Proposed New Confession for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)

by Dwight Christenbury

My sermon of May 17, 2026, dealt with a proposed new addition to The Book of Confessions, part of the constitution of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). A draft of this statement, meant to be

“a new confession of faith addressing modern challenges,”

is on the docket for consideration by the 227th General Assembly of the PC(USA), which will convene late next month in Milwaukee.

The process for adopting a new addition to The Book of Confessions is a lengthy one, and if the current proposed statement is approved, it will still face a number of hurdles, and likely a lot of editing, before it can become part of our church’s constitution.

I received a number of inquiries about this proposed confession of faith; to read all about it, go to:

This page, which is part of the online database of all the business which is expected to come before the General Assembly, includes not only the text of the new confession but also a good bit of background information, discussion of the work of the committee that drafted it, and a rationale for its creation.

Happy reading!
